The Master Dog Breeders & Associates was born from an idea several breeders of purebred dogs began discussing on the forums on Dogzonline at the beginning of the year 2000.

Finally six long time professional dog breeders and exhibitors set up the Master Dog Breeders Academy in 2005, offering correspondence courses covering all areas of the canine world from basic health & nutrition to University level four in canine genetics and lifestyle changing courses such as grooming or how to manage a boarding kennel.

Private forums were set up allowing students access to other members who were allbreeds judges, experienced breeders for advice or assistance, all overseen by  the MDBA Dean of Studies Dr Lesley Levins B.Sc.Dip Ed, M.Sc.Ph.D.Sc Ed.

In 2006 the MDBA formed a second arm to cater for everyone who in some way was associated with dogs whether it was as a pet, breeder, rescuer or professionally involved with canines.

The MDBA now has members Australia wide and internationally.

The highlight of the MDBA Calendar is the Dog Owners Choice Awards presentation dinner held annually to award those nominated from throughout Australia and overseas for providing an excellence in service.

The Dianne Gunn-Scarcella Memorial Award for Excellence in Achievement was presented to Margaret Coles of Moolarben Cocker Spaniels, Durong Qld.
Margaret has received so many outstanding nominations from so many of her puppy buyers and fellow breeders and was awarded
Master Breeder for 2007 & 2008
 

Those being awarded the Dianne Gunn-Scarcella Award is decided by their peers
