Due to numerous enquiries for chow puppies it is impossible to be able to answer everyone so I have added this page to hopefully explain what is entailed with adding a chow puppy or an older chow into the family and something of what we expect of prospective new owners.
From many of the enquires received there are many who have obviously seen the beautiful chow, either fully grown or as the gorgeous puppies that they are, and decided they want one without understanding that this is not just another breed of dog but a unique and not the easiest breed for those unanitiated to the Chow temperament.
As mentioned elsewhere on this site, and this cannot be expressed strongly enough, the Chow is not a breed for everyone, and prospective owners must fulfill certain criteria before they can be considered as a prospective owner of one of our puppies.
Our puppies and any rescue chows that may become available will only be available to those people who are either familliar with the Chow breeds idiosyncaranies or those prospective new owners who have and are making a genuine effort to research the breed and are genuinely wanting further information.
Essentials for the care of the Chow is a sensible and responsible owner who is more stubborn than the Chow, firm, fair and consistent with lots of time available for postive socialization right from puppyhood through to adult.
A securely fenced back yard is essential and the understanding that a chow must never be allowed off lead out on the streets and I myself do not recommend off lead parks. The Chow is in no way an aggressive breed and will rarely instigate a confrontation however there are several other breeds who
can see the Chow as a threat and will attack without provacation. The prey drive in the Chow is also extemely strong and he will take chase of anything that runs, cats, rabbits, poultry or livestock with no thought for traffic or frantic calls from their owner to come back.
Thorough grooming at least once a week is ESSENTIAL.
The Chow must be a part of the family with free access to the house and never relegated soley to the backyard. A Chow must never be chained up.
The Chow is an intelligent breed who thrives on his familys companionship though he's independent, extrordinarily stubborn, proud, regal & aloof and a natural protector of his family and territory and naturally wary of strangers which is why lots of positive socialization from puppy onwards is essential.
Many reputable chow breeders refuse to allow their puppies to go to famillies with young children although we ourselves have found the Chow is excellent with those children who are supervised by responsible adults who understand the breed. This applies to any breed of dog, not just the Chow.

The link above is to a fellow Chow breeders website with a great article she has adapted for the Chow as to Why You Should'nt Buy A Chow.
This merely gives the prospective new owner an insight to the possible negatives of sharing the home with a Chow.
We want our puppies to go to forever homes and the new owners need to know the negatives as well as the pluses so if you still feel the Chow is still the breed for you, you are welcome to contact us however please note that puppies are only occasionally available.
Due to the large numer of phone enquiries leaving mobile phone numbers (average six to ten a week) on the answering service it is financially impossible to return these calls.
There are currently no puppies available at the moment.
